Answer
Significant progress has been made across all four policy areas in the current phase of the Heritage, Culture and Creativity Programme.
A public consultation on the development of a new Museums Policy opened on 27 April 2026 and has now concluded. Officials are currently analysing the responses received, and a departmental response will be published in due course.
A public consultation to inform a new Historic Environment Policy opened on 14 August 2026 and will remain open until 23 October 2026.
On 30 September 2026 a public consultation to inform the development of a new policy in respect of public libraries opened and will remain open until 25 November 2026.
Work on a public consultation in respect of a new Arts Policy is at an advanced stage and further details will be announced shortly.
It remains my expectation that all four policies will be in place early in 2027.
